The Dose Dispatch: How did we get here and who is to blame for it?

Life being called a roller coaster isn’t hyperbole, yet a truer statement than most “sayings.” One moment you could be doing this and that, and the next day could still rock you to your knees. Our memory turns from rocks to sand pebbles as we age; the notion of holding on becoming the method of choice. If there’s a place in the internet desert to howl at the moon about our current predicament, it’s most likely right here at the original Buffa’s Buffet. The Substack blog may hold all the recent (three years worth) and future content, but every once in a while there’s a need to walk back into the old shop and turn on the lights.

To say the country is in a bit of shock is like saying riding down Hampton Avenue in the middle of rush hour isn’t a headache-inducing task. The United States of America is on edge, folks. For the second time in the past ten years, Donald Trump is President. The lion is back in the hen house. Whatever he’s been called or accused of, believe that it’s true no matter what his fierce supporters will tell you. I am not here to repeat or recant what has already been put to light. But one can’t be at odds with every Trump supporter. Now that it’s done and over, let’s be honest about the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris sissy 50 Cent-thrown Hail Mary toss of a campaign that the Democrats put together to keep Trump from getting back into office. It was weak, childish, and all together as resilient as an empty zip-lock bag during a winter storm. They should have never let Biden go for a second term. Harris should have been fully equipped and prepared for a full campaign instead, or they needed to have another mind ready to go.

Harris seemed like the substitute principal who took over a school torn apart by disbelief and chaos. She was the poor lady with a bullhorn in the middle of a packed Costco lot trying to win favor with people who didn’t know her or define her by one video. It was the epitome of half-baked and rushed, a false idea of installing a leader who wasn’t too old or old-fashioned. If there’s blame to be put out there for how we got here, a huge chunk falls on the shoulders of the Democratic party. They were run over by a change in political data, culture shifts, and overall interest shifts post-pandemic like the St. Louis Cardinals saw sabermetrics and talent development race by them in the past decade. If you’re not paying attention, life can blow right by you.

What I’m tired of is the hate out there. The election is over. Yes, we can wonder for the next four years how many souls in an individual home didn’t care for Trump yet didn’t see any light in Harris. It’s a fair rumination. Switching that into hatred isn’t the answer. Barack Obama would tell you that. Speaking of the last great President, he would have easily defeated Donnie Dynamite in an election if a third term was allowed. That’s fiction. We are in reality, a place that didn’t waste anytime being a dumpster fire. Trump signed what seemed like 4588 initiatives or new proposed laws or bills during his first 48 hours in office. From shutting down an app that helped immigrants set up an appointment for a VISA and entry into the United States of America to taking away LGBTQ flags and burning down any set of rights he could find, Trump got busy.

If you ever wondered why I can’t find a sliver of hope in Donald, that’s the main reason. Why climb into office and start tearing things apart and turning the country into a fortress? He’ll do more harm than good in his time in office, and the rich or money-is-first thinkers will be happy that their cash will be well laundered with Trump in office. Everything is more expensive, excessive, and in our face. The desire for more cash isn’t foolhardy.

With everything that has happened in the world, I don’t understand how we went from electing people like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama to putting someone like Trump in office… twice! A casual supporter of his could submit within seconds to the fact that he isn’t a good person or nowhere near fit to lead a country–but there he is, signing big deal sheets of paper. How did we get here, folks?

Yes, I will say out loud that a good portion of the Trump voters didn’t vote for Harris because she’s black. Sad but terribly true, our country is still too racist. But is that the biggest reason she lost in a landslide? That’s a more tricky and unstable statement to get behind. Unfortunately, people are easily swayed in 2025. Calling people stupid is short-sighted and mean as hell. It’s more about being easily persuaded into a train of thought instead of stepping back and composing your own point of view. On one hand, they had a guy who won an election. The other had a rushed candidate with a joke of a campaign. Harris was too reactionary to SWAY enough voters, so they stayed with Trump ball.

The Democrats got us here. They fucked it up. No one should fault Biden for getting snoozy in his early 80s. It’ll happen to us all. I blame the Dems for getting snoozy with their plans for 2025-2028. They have four years, Republicans and whoever included, to put together a better candidate. What they walk into after a second Trump tenure is anyone’s guess, but they’ll need to be good.

In case you missed the non-political rants, here’s what’s been going on over at Substack.

~The front office isn’t adding additional piece, so the onus is on the current roster of hitters to improve. The offense was the issue in 2025. Here’s 5 candidates that need to kick it up a notch.

~To TikTok or not? I have no horse in the race. However, creatives shouldn’t be blocked and it had nothing to do with a Chinese company.

~Christian Gudegast co-wrote and directed two Den of Thieves movies. I spoke to him about battling wildfire damage and making two modestly budgeted action adventures.

~A few words about the late Bob Uecker, aka Harry Doyle from the Major League movies.

~Movie reviews? I have them in droves.

That’s all for now. Subscribe to the Substack blog. It’s my pride and joy. The Dose, though, will always be my favorite son.
