The Dose Dispatch: In case you missed me lately

It’s been a minute, or two months, since our last chat here. The walls aren’t really closing in, but I have unsubscribed from the Premium WordPress plan. Running two sites is hard enough, but paying for the one you’re not really using is some real bad John Mozeliak contract bush league work. So, if you run down the Dose lane for older articles and run into a couple of ads, my apologies. It’s still better than an article over at Variety or the Post Dispatch, which fire 5-6 ads your way every click. How we have to make money off every single thing?!

In case you subscribe here and STILL DON’T SUBSCRIBE TO THE SUBSTACK NEWSLETTER, here’s what I’ve been writing and talking about elsewhere.

LISTEN. If you’re tired of reading my constant rambling, plug my voice into your ears instead. I came upon this webpage that housed 20+ of my recent entertainment segments on the Mark Reardon Show. I’ve been going on, more sporadically these days, with Mark since the end of 2019. We started it on KMOX 1120, and it moved to 97.1 FM News Talk St. Louis when his show made the move.

There’s also a few other random appearances, like my thrashing of No Country for Old Men on a podcast where two hosts gut a beloved movie. I spoke with local show host David Oliver about a potpourri of topics on another, and joined the Worst Fans in Baseball podcast a couple of months ago before the season started. That would be interesting. Here’s the link to enjoy (?) them all.

WATCH AND HEAR me tackle sports and entertainment on my sometimes, no real schedule video podcast, Here’s The Thing. The title is straight up stolen from the esteemed Brad Lee, editor the fan-favorite news rag sold outside Blues home games for many years. Brad started off a lot of hard points in his articles with that three-word phrase, and it always hooked me. “Here’s the thing” became a mantra for me, whenever I saw it. I just had to know. There’s five episodes, and counting. The latest dives headfirst into what the Cardinals should do at the deadline. They’re doing it, as we speak.

READ a few of my latest commentaries, varying from a usual suspect to the other usual suspects:

~A review of the new Justified series and a preview of the upcoming Von Erich brothers biopic, among other entertainment related topics. My movie review moniker, The Film Buffa, checks in.

~My difficulty in seeing the Lars Nootbaar fascination, in full detail.

~Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is as brilliant as you imagine, and even more emotional. Cillian Murphy should write an Oscar speech.

~I detonated this prose bomb inside Cardinal 24/7 a week after my last DOB dispatch. Sleep in your bed, Mo.

~This one was directed at Mr. DeWitt Jr.

How about one more?

~Jon Bernthal was nominated for an Emmy for his work last year on Hulu’s The Bear. He was even better this year in Season 2. Yeah, Bernthal is an outstanding talent and one I could write about for days, but these are the 800 words or so I actually decided to publish.

Goodnight and please be kind to each other,

DLB
