The Dose Dispatch: Have you missed me?

I know, it’s been a minute. Maybe five. Almost eleven months for those counting at home.

All of the content has been located over at the Substack blog, which I launched a crazy fast two and a half years ago. What I’ve given up on  was providing my longtime Dose OG audience, the ones who have dug in since the Banshee and Cards rants only days, are probably a little pissed off. If you forgot about me, it’s all good. Meeting again is a writer’s dream.

Since my last post was on Sept. 10 2023, I will forgo a recyclable Cardinals take from last summer when the team crawled to a 71-91 finish. Awful and turd gas worthy, the team rehauled with three starters some bullpen ammunition. 106 games into the 2024 season, they’re a much improved but still outside-looking-in 54-51.

The movie reviews have ramped up lately, as in moving faster than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. If I got out to an advanced screening, it was a rarity. Delivering, handling and dealing with the complexities of the plumbing supply trade is a doozy, which can leave one glued to the couch. However, I’ve got out more often in the past couple of months. Whether it’s an older gem like Pulp Fiction on the big screen or a new, exciting action comedy like Deadpool and Wolverine, there was a need to get out there.

So, without much further delay and bullshitting, I’ll unleash a few article links. Afterwards, perhaps a full-fledged old-fashioned rant. Stick around, subscribe to the Buffet, and have a great week.

~Goldy Saves The Day… FINALLY!

~Is Sonny Gray truly an ace?

~Forget that one movie with a decent cast that mimicked his story. Rick Ankiel told 101.1 ESPN that a new script is being written. He also revealed the ending. His story is endlessly inspiring.

~Jim Edmonds is a hitting coach disguised as a color analyst. Get him in the dugout, and Tom Pagnozzi on the postgame. Done. Nice and easy.

Now, for some movie and television show reviews. A surprise or two, perhaps, at least when compared to the national consensus.

~Unlike certain critics, I found ZERO problems with the latest season of The Boys. A trashy, gory and glorious “superheroes are bad news” romp. Banshee fans will love Antony Starr’s twisted Homelander.

~It’s true. Deadpool and Wolverine has the best cameo roster in comic book movie history, shocking me at least twice with the faces who show up. What about the movie? Imperfect, but still highly entertaining and consistently funny.

~I may not have loved Twisters, but I surprisingly enjoyed a movie starring Liam Hemsworth. Oh, and Nic Cage takes more chances than any actor working today. Osgood Perkins is a director to remember.

~Did The Bear’s latest season live up to extremely high expectations? Mostly, the answer is no-but there’s more where this hot-ish take came from.

~A potpourri of discussion, a longtime specialty of mine, includes a fresh review of Doug Liman’s methody comedy, Swingers.

That’s all for now. Be well out there in the wild wilderness that is modern day society. It’s not easy but then again, I don’t think it should be. See at the Buffet.
